Please be advised the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) will observe the Juneteenth holiday on Wednesday, June 19, at West Coast port facilities, including Tacoma. The Tacoma port facility will be closed for the day shift on Wednesday (0700 – 1800), and as a result, the Wednesday sailing MAC272N will be delayed departing Tacoma until early Thursday morning. We anticipate up to a 24-hour delivery delay for Anchorage, Fairbanks, Wasilla, Kenai, and Kodiak shipments on this sailing.
In an effort to ensure minimal interruption to our customers due to the port closure on Wednesday, June 19, Matson and Span Alaska have implemented the following changes:
- Tuesday, June 18, Matson has committed to keep the Tacoma gate open until 2200. Span Alaska has adjusted both our dock and trucking capacity to load and dray as many containers as possible to the port on Tuesday.
- Wednesday, June 19, Span Alaska has extended receiving hours at the Auburn Service Center to 1700 from the normal sailing day 1200 cutoff.
- Wednesday evening, June 19, Matson will open the Tacoma gate 1800 – 2200. Span Alaska has adjusted trucking capacity to dray as many containers as possible to the port within that 4-hour window.
We strongly encourage customers plan to have their shipments delivered to our Auburn Service Center on Monday and Tuesday, June 17 and 18, to ensure loading to MAC272N. We will be up against a 4-hour gate Wednesday evening and there is a chance that shipments arriving on Wednesday will be loaded to a container that gets rolled to the Friday, June 21, sailing MKD277N.
